Kelvi, Inc. (“Kelvi”) knows that you care about how your personal information is used and shared, and we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share personal information about educators, parents, and students who use the Kelvi Platform (including our website, mobile applications, and services). Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand our privacy practices and your rights and choices.
1. What personal information does Kelvi collect?
Personal information you provide
Teachers/Educators: Name, email address, school name, school email; information about your classes, students (with consent), and teaching preferences; course materials and discovery problem sets you create; classroom roster information (student names, optional identifiers for class organization).
Students: Name, age, date of birth (if provided); student responses to discovery questions and problems (drawings, text, mathematical work); progress data (which problems attempted, time spent, stages reached); learning preferences (if provided during onboarding).
Parents/Guardians (Kelvi Family):Name, email address; child's first name and age; payment information (if using paid features); parental consent documentation.
Information we obtain from third parties
When you log in through Google, Clever, or other authentication services, we receive your name and email address (as permitted by your privacy settings on that service) and basic profile information needed to authenticate you. The information we receive depends on the settings and privacy policy controlled by that third-party service.
Automatic data collection
When you use the Kelvi Platform, we automatically collect IP address and device information; log data (pages viewed, links clicked, time spent, engagement with problems); learning analytics (completion status, problem difficulty, time to solution, thinking patterns); and cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session and improve the Platform.
For student accounts, we may limit some automatic data collection to protect privacy. Parents can request that automatic data collection be minimized for their children.
2. What about children?
The Kelvi Platform is available to students under age 16 only with the consent of a parent, guardian, educator, or school.
For students under 13:We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. We do not use student information under 13 for marketing, advertising, or any commercial purposes.
For students ages 13–15:We collect educational data for the purpose of providing and improving the Kelvi Platform and the student's learning experience. Parents or guardians can request to access, correct, or delete their child's information at any time.
All student data (regardless of age) is:
- Used only for educational purposes
- Protected under FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) where applicable
- Never sold to third parties
- Never used for targeted advertising
3. How does Kelvi use personal information?
Educational delivery: Create and manage educator, student, and parent accounts; deliver discovery problems and learning content; track student progress and learning stages (Discovery, Exploring, Naming, Authorship); provide teachers with insights into student thinking and learning patterns; generate progress summaries for parents (in Kelvi Family); personalize learning experiences based on what the student has already learned.
Supporting your learning: Respond to your questions and provide customer support; send announcements about new features or content; send reminders about incomplete problems (if opted in); provide technical support.
Improving the Platform: Analyze how students approach mathematical discovery; identify which discovery problems are most effective; improve our understanding of how students think mathematically; develop new features and problem sets; train our AI to provide better feedback and guidance.
Compliance and safety: Comply with applicable laws and legal requests; protect against fraud and unauthorized access; enforce our Terms of Use and other agreements; protect the safety and rights of our users.
We do not use student or educator information for:
- Marketing or advertising purposes
- Selling to third parties
- Profiling or tracking outside the educational context
- Training AI models without consent (except to improve Kelvi's own educational services)
4. Will Kelvi share any personal information?
Educators and students: If you are a student in a class, your teacher can access your responses to discovery problems, your progress through the learning stages, time spent on each problem, and your thinking patterns and mathematical approaches — for educational purposes only.
Parents and their children (Kelvi Family):Parents can access a summary of their child's mathematical thinking and progress, which domains/topics their child has explored, milestones reached (Authorship or Return & Deepen), and general learning patterns (no detailed problem responses shared without consent).
Service providers and contractors help us host servers (Supabase), process payments (Stripe, when enabled), send emails (Resend), analyze usage (Vercel analytics), and provide technical support. These providers only access information necessary to perform their service, are contractually obligated to protect student and educator data, and cannot use the data for their own marketing or commercial purposes.
School districts and administrators using Kelvi School may access aggregate data about class progress, teacher dashboard information, and student names and class rosters for class management. Data will not be used to evaluate teachers or students beyond what is explicitly agreed upon.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect against fraud or security threats, or to protect the rights and safety of our users. If Kelvi is acquired or merged, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction; any acquirer must agree to protect student and educator data according to this Privacy Policy.
We do not share your information with third parties except as listed above and with your explicit consent.
5. Data retention and deletion
Student data: Retained while the account is active; deleted if inactive for 2+ years unless the parent/school requests retention; parents or educators can request deletion at any time; upon graduation or withdrawal, data can be deleted or exported at request.
Teacher data: Class rosters and materials retained while your account is active; deleted if inactive for 2+ years; you can request deletion or export at any time.
Parent data (Kelvi Family): Account data retained while active; payment information deleted 30 days after account closure; you can delete your account and all associated data at any time.
To request deletion, contact privacy@kelvi.io with your name, email, and which data you want deleted. We will confirm deletion within 30 days.
6. Privacy rights and choices
You can request a copy of your personal information, correct inaccurate data, or request deletion of your account and associated data (subject to legal retention requirements). You can opt out of marketing emails, request minimized automatic data collection on your child's account, or restrict use of your data by contacting privacy@kelvi.io.
Parents or guardians can request copies of their child's learning data, request deletion, request that we stop collecting or using their child's data, or withdraw consent. Educators can delete class rosters, request export of class data, or disable specific tracking features.
We may ask for additional information to verify your identity. Requests will be processed within 30 days. You are entitled to exercise these rights free from discrimination. You may also contact us by mail at Kelvi, Inc., 20 Main Street, Exeter, NH 03833.
7. Security
We use reasonable organizational, technical, and administrative measures to protect personal information, including encryption of data in transit (HTTPS), secure storage with access controls, regular security assessments, limited employee access to sensitive data, and contractual confidentiality obligations for all staff. No security system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at privacy@kelvi.io.
8. Third-party links
The Kelvi Platform may contain links to external websites. These websites are not under our control, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices or content.
9. International users
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, we process personal information based on performance of a contract, your consent, our legitimate educational interests, or compliance with legal obligations. You have additional rights under GDPR and UK GDPR, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent. If we transfer data outside the EEA/UK, we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email, post the updated policy on our website, and may require your acceptance before continuing to use the Platform.
